More than halfway through, and I'm excited to share opinions on this one! If you're fascinated by the scandals of the Gilded Age, this book takes you deep into one of the most sensational crimes of the era. Beyond the crime itself, it delves into the opulence and corruption of high society, media sensationalism, and the justice system of the time. With fresh insights and vivid storytelling, it brings history to life in a compelling way. Recommend!

Captivating Tale of Wealth, Power, and Murder
This book is interesting from start to finish - the author masterfully reconstructs one of the most notorious scandals of the Gilded Age with meticulous research and storytelling that transports you back in time. The narrative balances historical accuracy with engaging prose. The portrayal of New York's elite society, with all its opulence and hidden corruption, creates the perfect backdrop for understanding this shocking crime. What impressed me most were the psychological insights into the figures involved in the Stanford White case, delving deep into motivations and societal pressures rather than simply recounting events. For anyone interested in true crime with historical significance, this book delivers on all fronts - well-researched, beautifully written, and offering fresh perspectives on a case that changed how America viewed its wealthy elite.

I'm really enjoying this book. Not quite finished yet but i will say that once you start reading, it's extremely gripping and the chapters flow easily. I was already interested in some of the prominent subjects in this book - Stanford White, architecture, justice and media sensationalism and it's effects on the trial system. I wrote my law dissertation on exactly this subject, and a consequential miscarriage of justice, and this book explains the media's portrayals on the court system back then beautifully. A really interesting read.

Architect of Desire is the true crime story of a lover's triangle and the subsequent trial of Harry Thaw who shot his wife's love, the famous architect Stanford White in cold blood. A famous rags-to-riches show girl, lust, entitlement and emotional instability all play their part in this Gilded Age murder sensation. If you are looking for a well researched, factual account of the life and times of Harry Thaw and Stanford White and the unfortunate woman caught between the two, Evelyn Nesbit, don't go past this book.
