Minelab Equinox 800 is a true bridge between beginner and professional detecting
This review is for the Minelab Equinox 800 metal detector set, which includes the control unit, 6 inch coil, 11 inch coil, wireless module, headphones, and arm strap. I am giving this a five out of five. For the price, this machine genuinely bridges the gap between novice level detectors and professional grade detectors. If you are brand new to metal detecting but know you want a serious machine that you will not outgrow quickly, this is one of the best options available. The Equinox 800 uses Minelab’s multi frequency IQ system, meaning it emits multiple frequencies simultaneously. This allows it to handle different soil conditions and depths extremely well. It performs consistently across parks, fields, beaches, and even gold prospecting scenarios. The preset modes make it very approachable for beginners. You get two Park modes, two Field modes, two Beach modes, and two Gold modes, all selectable with a simple button press. You can turn it on, noise cancel, ground balance, and start hunting immediately. As your skill level increases, the deeper controls are there when you need them. You can manually adjust ground balance, recovery speed, iron bias, sensitivity, threshold, noise cancel, and frequency selection. You can also choose between two tone, five tone, or full fifty tone audio, which provides an incredible amount of target information once you learn to interpret it. The LCD screen is bright and easy to read. Battery life is strong. I typically get ten to twelve hours per charge. In colder northern Indiana winter conditions, I lose roughly one to two hours, which is expected for lithium batteries. Depth capability is excellent. I have personally dug targets approaching two feet deep with lower recovery speed settings in favorable soil. This detector absolutely has professional level performance when properly tuned. The wireless module is worth using. It provides extremely low latency audio and is noticeably better than standard Bluetooth headphones. I believe Minelab is no longer actively producing the Equinox 800, but it is still widely available and well supported. Minelab equipment is ubiquitous in the hobby, and parts and accessories are easy to find. I have been metal detecting since 2017 and have owned several detectors. The Equinox 800 is the machine that truly locked me into the hobby. Even as I upgrade to higher end units like the Manticore, this detector will always remain in my arsenal. Pros: • True multi frequency performance • Excellent depth and target separation • Beginner friendly presets with deep advanced controls • Strong battery life and fast charging • Bright, readable screen • Very low latency wireless audio Cons: • None worth noting for its class Bottom line: If you want one detector that can grow with you from beginner to advanced without holding you back, the Minelab Equinox 800 is an outstanding choice. It remains one of the most influential and capable detectors ever released, and it earns a strong five out of five.

What you need to know
My Whites V3i died, so I needed a backup while it was in the shop. It was fun to get a different detector to compare to my whites. First, there is basically nothing you can configure on this unit. It does have "Park 1/2" and "Field 1/2" which I can't really figure out what they do. You can select which frequency to detect in, but 99.999% of the time your do multifrequency. You can set the volume. That's about it. Some things about this unit annoy me. Here are the cons first: 1. The detection alert is not really a beep. It's more of a pin point sound. This takes some getting used to. Watch some videos on different detectors and find a beep you can live with. When you have to listen to a tone for five hours straight, you better love the tone. 2. There's no grip. Sure you hold the head unit, but if you look closely at the unit, there's no real grip, just a uniform, smooth neck. So you have to exert gripping force on the neck of the unit. Go squeeze the neck of a broom handle for five hours and tell me how you feel about it. 3. The coil is heavy and the head unit at the other end is lightweight. This translates into an unbalanced stick that you are holding up all day. So as you are gripping the neck, you also have to basically do a bicep curl to hold the head off the ground. This gets old after five hours. They should have weighed the other end so that it balanced and basically took your shoulder to hold the unit, not your bicep. I might mount a weight on mine or get the strap on extra battery. 4. The battery is internal. This means you have to drag your muddy detector into your house to charge it. 5. Each time you turn on the unit, you have to go into the configuration section and select "Noise cancel." Why wasn't this part of the startup process? 6. The charging cord is at some weird angle. But that's just nitpicking. 7. It's awkward to find an iron halo. 8. The whites v3i will tell you the metal type of the object. This will not give you any indication of what the metal is. 9. If you move it over an object that is not uniform, such as a coin, it gives all sorts of different VDI numbers. A whites will just say 30, the 800 says 30..10...20...11..32.. Of course, you will dig it, but still. Now the pros! It does detect a lot of stuff. I have had no problems with it. If this is your first detector, it will last you a long time. It's like a point and shoot camera since there's nothing to configure. If you are looking for coins and relics, this is a great detector. I could use this all the time instead of my Whites, but my whites is weight balanced and has removable batteries. I'm glad I purchased this unit. It is fun and dependable.

I had this machine up and running within minutes of unboxing. Headphones are really great quality and the recovery speed when passing the col over a target is really fast. The Wifi unit required charging, but the main unit was already appearing fully charged and ready to go straight out of the box. I have a number of Minelab detectors but this one really does appear to have an interesting edge. I tested it with the basic 11" coil over a trashy piece of ground and within 20 minutes pulled out 3 targets. Great machine!

Un producto que funciona a las mil maravillas si sabes usarlo, con lo que no estoy contento es con el vendedor que tuve problemas con el, al menos Amazon hizo justicia
