Checking the delivered item might be a good idea
Although they are quite expensive, I am generally happy with the quality and life span of the Brother TN-315 series toner carts. And so I will keep buying them. But I want to add a cautionary note. As you may know, the Brother printer gives you plenty of warning that you need toner, and I usually order a new cartridge promptly, and then the new cartridge sits on the shelf for sometimes months before I actually have to install it. This length of time always exceeds the time period for returns, so if I discover something wrong itโs too late. From my pics you can see my most recent yellow cartridge delivery. The box was beat up but still intact. It wasnโt until I opened it yesterday to install it that I noticed that there was quite a bit of loose powder all over the cartridge. You canโt see this sort of thing until you open the sealed envelope. I donโt know if the sealed package should always be left sealed until right before its use, but I always assumed such. Iโm not sure that is a good practice (to leave it sealed) to follow or not, given the one month return window. I suppose I would chalk this up to bad luck but for the coincidence that my previous yellow cartridge had problems too, but not with the packaging. Halfway through its usage period, it started to spill yellow toner on the other internal components and leaving some minor yellow streaks and splotches on the printed output. Iโm not perturbed much by that, but some might be. Hence this cautionary tale.

Love It
Okay, I know I'm weird, but I feel a deep connection with my office supplies. My giant Brother printer is one of my prized possesions, so the toner it uses is important to me, too. In my old Minolta printer, I tried an off-brand toner for a huge cost savings. Well, it ruined the printer. No actual costs savings occured because I had to buy a new printer ... my beloved Brother HL-4570CDW. When the Brother needed a new toner, I was happy to see that they are very affordably priced (as long as I don't need to replace all of them at once) and they really DO last a long time. I don't keep track of how many pages I print, but let's just say that I probably print more than I should. Unlike the cheap off-brand toners, this one hasn't exploded inside the unit. It works as it is supposed to. All in all, it is printer toner. It does what it is supposed to. Peace of mind is worth the price!

Learn how to reset your Brother printer to get the rated toner capacity
My conclusion after messing around with non Brother refills and "compatible" cartridges: stay with original Brother cartridges to avoid long term problems with your printer. As others have mentioned you do not get 6000 pages out of these toner cartridges if you rely on your Brother printer's "toner empty" messages. Brother implements a crude page counter method to determine when the cartridge is "empty". Usually there is still plenty of toner left, another 800 ... 1000 pages. So Google your printer model for instruction of how to reset this counter on your particular model and make you $ go further. You can easily see when the toner is really approaching empty in the printout quality. On a Brother MFC-9560: Open cartridge door, then push the clear and back buttons to bring up the reset menu. reset the counter for each of the K (black) ,C(yan), M(agenta) and Y(ellow) cartridges. Are the original manufacturer toner prices rip-offs? Absolutely, after all they follow the marketing model Mr Gillette already developed over a century ago: give away the razor (printer) for (almost) free and charge an arm and a leg for low material cost replaceables. But I've tried toner refills and "compatible" cartridges from various companies and while they might perform good initially, long term they lead to problems.(toner spill inside the machine, clogged toner path, etc...). So for me it is not worth the "savings".

Canโt Comment Yet
My printerโs counter indicated that my current toner cartridge were finished, so I ordered a set of four new ones. That was premature, because in the meantime I learned how to reset the counter, When I did that, and gave each cartridge a stake to settle the toner, I was able to continue printing with no loss in quality. I am not a heavy volume user, so it has been printing nicely and my new cartridges are sitting on a shelf. Unlike cartridges for an ink printer, the toner does not dry out. Thatโs why I bought a laser printer in the first place. As a result, I cannot give the cartridges 5 stars until I actually get to use them. Having said that, I have no doubt they will be as good as the cartridges that came with the printer.

Brother will not replace cartridge that is leaking toner everywhere
Don't waste your money on Brother toner cartridges. There is no benefit to buying them over the much cheaper off-brand products! You only get a 90-day warranty from the date of purchase. If you buy a high-yield cartridge and keep any in reserve to have ready for when your current one runs out, then you will never, ever experience a problem before the 90 days runs out. Brother has designed the warranty to be completely useless. This is ridiculous as Brother could easily determine the life of the cartridge through all the data that they capture while it is in use in the printer. So, they could easily accept a failed product as a return and determine the remaining life. But, this would cost them more money because they would actually have to stand behind and replace their a product when it fails. In my case, the cartridge was about 25% used based on the statistics I printed from the printer. It then started leaking toner all through the inside of the printer. It took me hours to take everything apart and get the toner cleaned out of all the nooks and crannies. So, I spent about $80 to buy the Brother cartridge and got about $20 of use out of it. Therefore, I lost $60. Next time I will be buying the $20 non-OEM cartridge instead. I have seen the complaints about the non-OEM cartridges having an occasional leak. However, I could buy four of these cartridges for the cost of one Brother cartridge. Even at a 50% failure rate, meaning two of them leaking, I am still better off than taking a chance on one $80 Brother cartridge leaking. I am done with Brother cartridges and will buy a different brand printer next time as well.

OEM vs Refill/Off Brand
Stick to new Brother oem toner cartridge, worth the small extra cost. I've tried refills and off brands which have proven to be extremely substandard.
