This is a wonderful product! The guard is more comfortable than what’s ...
This is a wonderful product! The guard is more comfortable than what’s available from a drug store and considerably cheaper than the $350 my dentist wanted to custom mold one. It is necessary, though, to follow the instructions very closely and also watch the video that will be sent to you once you place an order. I must admit, though, that despite having watched the video twice, and reading all the instructions three times, I had problems fitting the mouth guard to my tiny mouth. First, it is very important not to overheat the mouth guard. The instructions call for removing it from the hot water as soon as you notice the walls of the mouth guard starting to curl together. I removed the mouth guard at 18 seconds when I saw that the side walls were starting to curl together. The side walls, though, are quite a bit thicker than the front walls and by the time I had removed the guard from the water, the front walls had curled together and the guard was ruined. So, err on the side of caution. You can always re-heat the guard if you remove it from the hot water too early. For my second attempt, I removed the guard at 16 sec, but in order to fit it into my tiny mouth, I had to pinch the two sides towards each other. Guess I pinched them too much as when I was done with the molding process, the mold barely covered the bottoms of my back teeth; most of the mold was pressed against the roof of my mouth and once the mold had cooled, it would not stay on my teeth, so this guard also went into the trash. My third attempt, though, was very successful and I ended up with a mouth guard that fit snuggly against my teeth although the walls extended too high up on the gums in some places. It was easy enough to trim off the excess. I’ve now been wearing the mouth guard nightly for almost two weeks and it fits perfectly. I know that if you mis-mold a mouth guard ProDental will send you a replacement, but wasn’t sure this applied to me as I now have a fully-functioning guard. However, after getting a 2nd e-mail from the company asking me how I was making out with the mouth guards, I decide to write ProDental and let them now that although I was eventually successful and now have a very comfortable mouth guard, I would feel better if I had a backup just in case I lose it. (I take a lot of over-night airplane flights where I’m apt to leave things behind (like mouth guards and eye masks) so I like to travel with backups of those things. I asked ProGuard if they could possibly send me another guard. Within an hour I had a response from Don Closson saying that he was sending me TWO free replacements. He also said that after I molded them, if they needed additional trimming or smoothing, he would do it at no charge. This is a company that clearly stands by their product and will go to great lengths to make sure the consumer is happy.

Best night guard for people with a sensitive gag reflex
The best bite guard with amazing customer service, hands down. I have a pretty severe gag reflex where even going to the dentist for a regular cleaning is hell, much less having to get a filling done - at that point I need to pop a couple Xanax just to survive the procedure. So when my dentist told me I needed a night guard for my teeth grinding I felt a panic attack coming on, not to mention to get one done by my dentist would cost me a $$$$. So, originally I decided to try out a store bought night guard and make it myself to save myself money. Horrible decision. The thing felt like I had a rubber ball in my mouth which was agonizing (unless you're into that type of thing, I don't know). I would try to go to bed in my panicked state hoping my gag reflex wouldn't be triggered, and on the off chance that I managed to fall asleep I would wake up in terror at having this giant, intrusive bite guard in my mouth. I was worried that I would have to shell out the money for an expensive guard that may still end up being uncomfortable and unwearable. So after reading the reviews for this product, I ordered these as a last ditch effort only to be surprised by how well the guard fit my mouth without triggering my gag reflex. The instructions were super simple and informative, even providing tips for people with small mouths or severe gag reflexes like me. ProDental even provides a thinning service free of charge where you can send in your bite guard after fitting it to your teeth to have it thinned out to further help alleviate triggering the gag reflex. This is my go-to night guard now and has helped relieve the tooth pain I feel throughout the day due to my intense teeth grinding. Plus, with the extra guards I don't have to worry if I wear mine out since I can just easily make a new one. Buy this guard if you're a night grinder with a severe gag reflex like me to save yourself the anxiety and cost. Update 01/18.2017 So recently I decided to try out the free thinning service for the mouthguard I molded - while the one I made was comfortable it wasn't completely unnoticeable especially when I was feeling sick with a cold or flu which ended up triggering my gag reflex more easily. I contacted the company, only to be surprised by the company contacting me directly, presumably the owner as it was addressed from a Don Closson, DDS of ProDental. He told me that instead of a thinning service, he would send me a couple of their new, thinner mouthguards, free of charge and shipping paid for. I took him up on the offer and within a week received the new guards, which true to his word were much thinner, much more comfortable, and almost unnoticeable in my mouth. After about a month now, I can tell you that these are the best mouthguards for night grinding if you have a severe gag reflex like me. Sometimes I'll wake up and completely forget I'm even wearing the guard until I go to brush my teeth and realize I'm still wearing it. Cannot recommend these enough. Below is a link to the thinner ones which I will definitely be purchasing once the ones I have wear out. Excellent customer service and excellent products. https://www.amazon.com/ProDental-Grinding-Teeth-Whitening-Mouth/dp/B01MECB4I3/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?srs=14357429011&ie=UTF8&qid=1484779129&sr=8-3&keywords=mouth+guard

Three weeks in. Here's my impression! :)
UPDATE 2/10/2016: I have been using the same night guard now for more than 8 months. Still works great. It's not chewed up at all. Excellent value and product! TLDR version; Good product. Excellent support and documentation. Three weeks of use and no durability issues yet. Absolutely a great value. I am very satisfied. Comparison to another product: I've been using these nightguards for roughly 3 weeks now. My previous night guard was a Dentek with the Blue soft/moldable portion and the thick bite plate. It served me well for 2 years (longer than average as i read other reviews on it), but eventually fell appart. I figured i would try the Pro-Dental instead of getting another Dentek since the reviews for the new denteks are terrible. So my main concern with these Pro-Dental guards is that they would be too soft and I'd chew them apart quickly. And that is yet to be determined. However, i have recently woken up realizing i was just grinding my teeth on the night guard during vivid dreams. (Pretty weird feeling!). And yes, so far the soft plastic is holding up well. I hope they continue to endure. Molding experience: I found before molding i needed to trim the material on the top (so it wasn't so deep dish) and i needed to leave in the hot water 1 second longer to get a good squishy/workable consistency for custom molding to my mouth. DO NOT be affraid of putting the mouth piece in your mouth after taking it out of the hot water. Just let it air cool for 5 seconds and get it in your mouth. It will be very warm, but not hot. I tried molding one without trimming it at all and the material squished across the entire roof of my mouth, and cooled to form something that looked more like one of those plastic orthodontic retainers you get after your braces come off. Needless to say it was still soft but not comfortable as it felt like my tongue had no room in my mouth. I suppose i could "return" this one and request another piece be sent, but for the price of these 3, I do not feel it is necessary. It is still usable and will serve well as a backup i can keep in my luggage all the time in case i forget to pack the regular use one. Comfort: The two that i trimmed properly are very comfortable in my mouth. I usually start using it as i read a book in bed before falling asleep and after 5 minutes i forget it's in my mouth. However when i do bite down i'm still adjusting to the feeling of my front teeth being able to bite into the soft plastic as apposed to the hard plastic of the Dentek. And i guess that's why i question the longevity of this product. Cleaning tip: One very important instruction included in the package is to NOT USE MOUTHWASH to clean these platic detal appliances. Mouthwash will dry out the plasic and it will crumble. Just use regular hand soap or basic toothpaste. I think that's why my Dentek lasted longer than everybody writing bad reviews, i have always used a soft brush and mild hand soap to clean it every morning. Hope this helps.

This is the best mouth/night guard I have ever tried
This is the best mouth/night guard I have ever tried!!! And I have tried them all. Let's see... I tried all the Dentek (Which never last as long as they say on the package. Woke up many times with chunks of the things falling in the back of my throat.) Tried the sleep aid mouth guard, which was total torture! The thing didn't feel right with or without boiling, and I was so desperate for a guard I ended up cutting the bottom part off to use it. Tried all those Doctors Guards, and those strange no boil ones... Yeah don't waste your money on those thin bar ones, that just have the padding for the back teeth. Those do not last long, and eventually you will start grinding your front teeth. I also tried getting custom made ones from the dentist, but those are expensive, and the molding process is really uncomfortable. (Especially when the lab tech loses the little air pocket essential for getting the mold to release. Nothing like the feeling of all your teeth being pulled at once! My teeth are fine, but I just have a smidge of trauma from that experience...) Anyway let me list the pros to these ProDental Guards for my fellow night grinders and clenchers. 1. Extra long (ACTUALLY FITS TO YOUR BACK TEETH!) hallelujah they actually reach the teeth they are supposed to protect! 2.Thick but not too thick... (Right, little vague but... if you ever had to use a night guard before you know when one is so thick you can't close your mouth, or so thin that it will only last a week. These guards have the perfect thickness, so they will last, and I can comfortably close my mouth.) 3. They flex! (Along side the thickness there is a little flex to them, which is what makes them comfortable. It is nothing like those horrid hard heavy duty ones you get from the dentist, or that evil Sleep Aid night Guard.) 4. Actually made for a normal sized adult mouth! (Huh.. Strange requirement right? Well you'd think so after all the products I bought. Not only do they have enough reach for the back, but they also have it for the front teeth too. So you are not teetering on the edge of the front of the guard, or having to make compromises about which teeth you want to protect more. 5. 3 pack!!! Yay! A company that actually cares about its customers for once. If you mess up one, you can try again. Though, I found these extremely easy to mold, so then you got two extras for when you need to replace them. So yes, as an extreme grinder, who could kill a high quality Dentek in a month, I totally recommend these ProDental mouth guards. BUY THEM! I plan to purchase again when I run out.

Good bargain and easily molds to teeth for those who have no other option
I followed the instructions precisely and got a very good fit the first time. I am an adult and these were definitely large enough for my mouth. There was too much extra material on the inside of my teeth, which irritated the roof of my mouth. I did my best to cut this off (which is NOT easy) and the result was satisfactory, not great. The price was definitely a bargain, compared to the hundreds of dollars I spent and multiple visits required to have my dentist make and attempt to adjust a mouthguard that never fit properly (thankfully my money was refunded!). However, I found that despite a product that fit, I really detest wearing a night guard and just couldn't tough it out. The first few weeks I woke with nightmares that I was choking because it was just too much in my mouth. Once I got over that, I started actually grinding and biting MORE because the feel of the material was so satisfying to bite down on (a little squishy), which led to more severe TMJ. Additionally, I was so disgusted at the taste and feel of my teeth when I removed it in the morning that I just stopped using it altogether. I actually trained myself to stop grinding and biting through meditation, which was a huge relief. If you must use a biteguard/night guard, these are a bargain and can be adjusted by carefully following the instructions. I would recommend them over a guard made by a dentist based on my experience with each, but would recommend meditative training as an adjunct therapy.

Just pay the dentist - ins may cover some of it
I was so perturbed after trying to fit these that I put them aside and missed the return window. Now I’m stuck with some plastic. I followed the directions precisely, had all the suggested tools and supplies, and expected to only do a minimum amount of trimming with one of the three sizes of scissors I had put out. I’m an adult, my mouth isn’t small, and my teeth are straight. Easy going. If only . . . I put it in my mouth as directed to check the initial size and how much would need to be cut off during the process to get it aligned correctly on my gums. Jump ahead several steps. It was difficult to get a good suction fit to press for molding to my teeth, but I did my best. It was like trying to mold a car tire in my mouth. I’ve had thin mouthpieces and thicker ones, but this felt like it was pushing my cheeks out. Skipping ahead. Heated again. Tried again. No molding. Thought maybe it would mold better after trimming. Nightmare. The outside was hard to cut physically. Too thick. I tried all 3 scissors. Thought maybe it would cut easier when just out of the water. No. Cutting the inside? Laugh and laugh. The severe angle at the front makes it impossible to fit any size scissors in there. Tried heated. Cold. Room temp. Scissors do not fit inside. Got the bright idea of a sharp knife and shaving little pieces at a time. Wouldn’t fit in there. Tried shorter box cutter. Tried bagel knife to saw it. No fit on anything. I’ll sand it! Um, no. Even got out furniture stripping sand paper. Nothing. It was a mess. It wouldn’t even get it leveled out or smooth. It just roughed it up more. Tried moving on to make anything better and trim a little off the back where it was hitting my gum. Ended up hacking. Nothing good will come of this. After trying for over an hour to trim it, and having a tongue that hurt for 2 days from constant scrubbing, I quit without it ever being smooth anywhere, the inside edge a disaster, and not having any mold impressions of my teeth. What I don’t understand is how I used every cutting device in my house except for the garden shears, and I honestly considered those, and could NEVER get any kind of cut around the inside. Instead I got some hacks, a surface covered in rough plastic, and a mouthful of grit despite rinsing. Since I couldn’t trim it with a box cutter, I doubt my cat will face a choking hazard. She now has new toys that with bounce if she hits them just right.

Good for bruxism and night sleeping, easy to customize
I have bruxism and have had teeth wear / sensitivity issues as a result. Apparently my dental insurance won't cover a mouth guard at all, so instead of spending $800 (dentist quote) I tried OTC mouth guards. I have tried the athletic Wilson X one --- easy to form, firmer than this mouth guard, but because of the hard plastic bits that can't be molded, is thicker in the back (molar area) and front teeth area than I'd like. The ProDental mouth guard was equally easy to form -- it comes with a big sheet of instructions, but honestly, it's not rocket science to drop this into water that has just been taken off the stove at boiling point, wait till you see the sides just beginning to curl in, scoop out with a silicone spatula, wait another couple of seconds, then pop in your mouth for the forming. The fact that you can re-dip it into water to further get a better fit is nice -- no wasting a mouth guard on a "bad" attempt. In terms of thickness, this is definitely thicker than the custom ones you'd get at the dentist, and the included pamphlet says so. If you find that the thickness (they say it's 1mm thicker) is too much you can even mail it to them to be made thinner. For me, it suffices -- I can close my mouth without looking like I have swollen lips. It's a lot softer than the athletic guards so for me felt a bit more comfortable and unnoticeable. I trimmed the thickest parts with a pair of scissors (they say to leave a margin above gum line for shrinkage, but there was quite an excess for me personally). My only issue is after trimming the edges where it was cut are not entirely blunt --- I will try filing them down with a flat hobby file and re-dipping in very hot water again to see if that resolves it. FWIW, I was NOT given any discount or free product to review this, this is entirely my own opinion and rating based on shopping for my bruxism problem.

A Great Affordable Mouth Guard with Excellent Technical Service after Purchase!
I originally ordered the thick ones without knowing they have even thinner ones. The good thing about this product is that the company will absolutely "bend over backwards" to help you and make sure you get a proper fit, etc. In order to be successful with these guards, you will need to take the time to thoroughly read the instructions provided with the product and follow them very carefully. I can't stress this enough. I was able to get a good impression with the first one of the thicker ones I tried, but I felt like it was quite a "mouthful" of plastic, so I went ahead and let them send me some of the thinner ones, since they offered readily to do so in at least 1 email, probably more than 1 email. The thinner guards are far more picky in how they respond to being heated. Make sure to follow the instructions. The thinner ones are probably more comfortable, but you need to be extremely careful with them, especially when heating them. If you leave them in the water for a second too long, they will curl over and stick to themselves and possibly be useless. This is especially true for the very front of the guard, so you need to be sure you're ready to grab them out of the hot water immediately upon judging them to be hot enough. The thinner ones don't take as long in the water as the thicker ones do, and the thicker ones are far more forgiving. I can't stress enough how fast you need to be when handling the thinner guards. You need to have in your head what you're going to do and be prepared mentally to get the guard in your mouth before it sticks to itself. If you can get your technique right, though, the thin guards will give you a very nice mouth guard. I have to emphasize again how very helpful this company is in making sure that you get a usable mouth guard. If you make a mistake on the mouth guards included in your purchase, they will still offer to assist you by sending you some more mouth guards and by speaking with you on the phone. They are completely geared towards your satisfaction. I really don't think you can beat the quality of this mouth guard for the price and the help you'll receive after your purchase. The finished product you get after molding it to fit your mouth will be something that is 99% as good as the $300 version you would get from your dentist. I feel like this mouth guard is taking care of my nighttime teeth grinding problem.
