This Resolved My Cable Box Issue
This is an amazing device. I recently had Charter's TV service installed and needed the small HD cable set-top box to be installed on the 1st floor. For two months I struggled with service calls and troubleshooting because I could not get the set-top box to output digital audio from my sound bar. Here is my setup: Projector - HDMI to Set-top - S/PDIF to Sound bar. The charter technicians and I must have tried every setting possible on that Set-top box with no luck. After a little research I found this adapter. When I tested the new setup I treated my Set-top box as if it was the DVD/Blu-Ray player in the provided diagram on the Amazon listing. I treated my projector as the TV. This is the new setup: Sound bar - S/PDIF - to AGPtek adapter / HDMI from Set-top box to HDMI "in" on AGPtek adapter/ HDMI from AGPtek adapter to HDMI "out" on my Projector. Once I changed my Set-top box to output audio in L-PCM mode (which didn't work before) . . .BOOM! I now have digital audio from the Set-top box to my sound bar. This device is worth every penny it sells for.

Just Works And Works Well
I have a newer Roku Ultra with no S/PDIF optical out. I needed this feature for an older Surround Sound receiver that had no HDMI connections. I purchased this unit to hopefully give me this function. It arrived on schedule as per the purchase agreement. I simply plugged it all in, set the switch to 5.1 digital and it just worked immediately. I tested it with 2 channel Dolby Surround, 5.1 channel Dolby Surround, and DTS 5.1 Surround. It performed perfectly! All my cables fit snugly with tight connections. There was no degradation in picture quality. Make sure and set your Roku to Dolby 5.1/DTS in the settings, and turn off any sound mode adjustments in any of your Roku APPS. Works like a dream! Thank you for a great product. I will buy from this company in the future.

Little gadget with magic wonders that works!!
I bought the Apple TV 4 not knowing that it didn't have the digital optical port. I was so disappointed in Apple wasting money on it but did some research & some web site suggested getting this. Not knowing how to hook this up, my husband was able to figure out how to hook up AGPtek HDMI to HDMI, SPDIF, RCA L / R Audio Extractor Converter to Apple tv 4 to Bose 321 system to the HD TV & it took less than 15 minutes. This thing works wonders. It is so small & doesn't take a whole lot of space. It's sitting behind the tv doing it's magic. Now I have sound coming thru Bose 321 system because of this little gadget. Thank you!!

Finally!!!! Can get back to watching movies at night without bothering anyone...
Really wish I could have gotten this a year ago, back in January of last year I upgraded to a Blu-ray player... Sadly the player only supported HDMI output - and only had 1 output to go to the TV. So my RCA wireless headphones didn't hook up to anything, so no late-night movie watching - joys of shared apartment. Friend told me to try this converter, WONDERFUL!!!! Not only can I listen/watch my movies, but because it runs the audio thru the box the TV doesn't even need to be on - for those nights when I just want to listen rather than watch while working on the computer. Hooking it up only took a matter of seconds. The box is small so when not in use can be tucked out of the way behind the player. Video Output: No noticeable degrade in the video to the TV. Audio Output: Well, depends on the headphones. My wireless ones work great as they have their own volume control. Wired headphones (the larger covers full ear style) work ok, volume is a little lower than I like but still very clear. But... ear-buds and the smaller style headphones.... suck with it.... the audio is super low, hard to hear, so some sort of amplifier is required depending on the headphones. Haven't tried the plug in speakers yet to see how the audio is on them.

This is the splitter you are looking for.
Tried a JTech version of this and it wouldn't work at all. Saw this on sale for Cyber Monday and figured I'd give it a shot. I've got a PS3 and WiiU that are currently connected to an HDMI switch (works great) and then the TV is hooked to a stereo system via SPDIF. Problem is it's a cheap TV that doesn't pass through the 5.1 properly, so without a direct connection from console -> stereo (consoles are used for shows/movies also) there was no 5.1 sound. Other splitter didn't pass through anything, apparently it is a problem with their device (can only pass certain types). THIS ONE though works great. Wii U was the bad part on the last one, but this one passes through a clear 5.1 from any device. If you are looking for an HDMI to HDMI with extra audio out: this is it.

confused
I have a TiVo Premiere hooked up to my Panasonic PT-53TW53. I use the HDMI out, and RCA R+L outputs on the TiVo, and hook up to the digital in connections on the TV. The conversion of the HDMI out is via an HDMI to DVI cable. This has worked perfectly for years, but recently I wanted to disconnect the TiVo and replace with my Roku or Amazon Fire TV. Both have a single HDMI output. So I purchased an AGPtek® HDMI to HDMI + SPDIF + RCA L / R Audio Extractor Converter (HDMI input,HDMI+ Audio output) box, hooking up the HDMI output from the Roku or Fire TV to the input on the extractor/converter, and simply disconnecting the HDMI to DVI and RCA R+L outputs from the TiVo, and plugging them into the outputs on the converter/extractor. The converter/extractor has a 3 position switch: PASS, 2CH audio, or 5.1CH (via and SPDIF or Toslink cable). I have had 2 of these converter/extractors, and with both the Roku and Fire TV I got the same results with both converter/extractors: With the switch on 2CH, which is where I understand I should get HDMI video and 2CH RCA audio, all I get is the RCA audio. No video. If I switch to PASS I get video with no audio. Of course on the 5.1 setting I get nothing, since the TV does not support SPDIF. Yet I see reviews all over Amazon indicating folks are using this converter/extractor for this very purpose, and it is working fine. I can't possibly imagine that it is some sort of incompatibility issue with the TV, since the TiVo has worked (and continues to) fine for years. Any ideas?
