Kumon Math Skills Workbooks are unique because they focus on teaching one specific skill from start to finish. With just the right amount of practice, children master each topic and gain confidence without becoming bored or frustrated. Review: Great Book For Learning About Numbers! - The Kumon series of books works by empowering children to succeed on their own. The books get successively more difficult as they build upon skills learned from the previous pages, so that by the end of the book the child has a sense of accomplishment and be ready to move on to the next level. The instructor is more of a mentor or coach than a teacher in a classroom. This numbers book is designed to help teach familiarity of numbers 1-30 and how to write them. It does this by doing simple dot-to-dots, number tracing, number puzzles, number matching with objects, and counting with dots. There's quite a bit of number writing practice mixed in with a lot of fun activities. My 3 year old can easily follow the first half of the book without much of a problem. The second half is a little more difficult as it switches to dots instead of objects. The font becomes smaller and the numbers more abundant. I started photocopying the pages of the book, but then realized that my child doesn't mind just going over and over the same numbers again and again. Kumon also has the My Book Of Number Games 1-70 (Kumon Workbooks) , My Book Of Numbers 1-120 (Kumon Workbooks) , and My Book Of Number Games 1-150 (Kumon Workbooks) books in the series, but this is the first book to start out with when learning the numbers. Highly recommended! Review: Fantastic! - We are homeschoolers, and I am always looking for materials that are fun and that work. Number 1-30 accomplishes both goals. There is a lot of repetition, but it's great for little guys who are learning to write, read, and count their numbers. All three of my boys loved the graphics and activities, and learned their numbers. My second son in particular used to get stuck at 11, 12, 13, etc. This book got him and the others very confident and proficient. We used it for two boys at age 3 and one at age 4. Everyone loves Kumon in our house, and nobody ever complains when I bring the books out. I highly recommend this book.

Straight forward - it is great
Bought this for my 5 year old to strengthen his number writing skills. I do "home school preschool" with him. He loved this book so much that he did it all in one week. He did a lot of it on his own. He would independently get it off the shelf and work on it, that is how much he loved it. I say if a child likes a book so much that he can't put it down it is great, especially when it teaches him great skills. He definitely knew how to write all his numbers by the end. I don't agree with the reviewer who said you need to make photocopies. Since this book goes to #30 your child is writing 0-9 over and over again just by writing the numbers 10-30 as well. There is not a single number below 30 that my child does not know how to write on his own now.

Wish they would perforate the pages
I love the Kumon books but really wish they would perforate their pages. It is difficult to use if the pages are left in it. My son can not lay the pages flat to write on them and I have to rip them out which usually tears into the work he is trying to do. The pictures are bright and 'happy'. The curriculum is wonderful. At least I think so, I started all my kids with the Kumon books. I have three sons ages 5, 13, and 16. My 16 yr old is currently on the 'law track' in his school taking concurrent classes at the local college so that he can become a lawyer. My 13 yr old is in all Pre-AP and one AP class in middle school. And the 5 yr old is scoring above average - he is currently a Kindergartner. So, that says something :) Kumon gave them a great jump start! Again the only con is that perforating those pages would make it a lot easier. So I went with the 4 stars. Just sayin'. But that aside… Kumon books are fantastic books. My kids got most of their base skills from their books.

4.5 yo loves it
An excellent pace for my 4.5yo. She loves it and is learning her numbers so well. LOTS of repetition, but somehow varied enough in format to keep her motivated. Seems so simple to us, but it incorporates so much: one-to-one counting, recognition of numbers, writing (5 is hard!), recognizing the order of the numbers, how to say less-than-intuitive pronunciations like "thirteen" and "fifteen", seeing/hearing familiar digits re-appear in the teens and 20's...

Kumon is excellent
Excellent learning tools. The books have clear parent instructions and my 3 1/2 year old grandson absolutely loves them. It makes for great quality time and he looks forward to working in these books. instead of candy or ice cream, these workbooks have become his "treat". The numbers book gives just the right amount of visual, tracing, and on-your-own exposure to writing numbers

Awesome numbers workbook!
I absolutely love the Kumon workborks. My 5 year old just finished this workbook with ease. Each workbook teaches one concept at a time so that your child can build upon their skills at their own pace. I've used other workbooks and find that they sometimes skip around or introduce concepts that are too hard to follow because my child hasn't learned that concept yet. This can be frustrating especially if you want the learning to flow. Everything in the Kumon line is clearly explained and easy to follow. I highly recommend all their workbooks for school aged children.

EXCELLENT TEACHING TOOL
My First Book Of Mazes My First Book Of Tracing (Kumon Workbooks) My Book Of Numbers 1-30 (Kumon Workbooks) I purchased the Kumon Mazes, Tracing and Number Workbooks for my granddaughter. We'd already begun working on phonics with another series of books, but I must say the Kumon books are superior to any others we've used. She enjoyed the exercises so much, she wanted to finish the entire book in one sitting. Her writing and manual dexterity improved very rapidly. I highly recommend this series.

What a truly fantastic Book!
My 4 year old really loved this book. There were days when he would do 10 pages out of his own initiative but on some days he would only do 1 or 2 pages. The book is so well structured that before he knew it, he could count, order, write and read numbers really confidently. The confidence he gained thanks to this book really motivated him and as a result he absolutely loves his Maths lessons at school. Our son is a summer born baby which means that he is 2nd youngest in his classroom (reception year). He started school in September and could only count to 10. He couldn't count back and he couldn't read or write numbers at all. Completing this book really made a huge difference and it didn't just teach him counting, reading & writing numbers, it also provided a lot of pencil skill & writing practice. His handwriting is so neat that even the classroom teacher commented on how neat his handwriting is. All I say is that this was a brilliant purchase and we will be buying many more books by Kumon. Will try their literacy books too.
