Outstanding Bargain Digital Drum Set
My 5 year old grandson has been taking an interest in my drums, so I decided I would get him his own set for Christmas. I didn't want to spend thousands of dollars on them (as I did for mine) in case it was just a passing thing and he wasn't really interested. I decided on the Alesis DM6 based on features and cost, plus the ability for the entire set to be lowered for him to use now, as well as raise them up as he grows. I didn't really expect much from these drums since they were just over $300, but I was really surprised by the quality of construction, the capabilities and the sound quality. The assembly instructions probably were not as good as they should be for a novice, but for someone that has owned several sets of digital drums it wasn't an issue. This is a complete drum set....comes with everything.....even drum sticks (but they are full size and you'll need junior sized sticks for a young player). It took about 40 minutes for assembly. Everything worked great!! I would highly recommend these drums for the young beginner.....or someone uncertain of the entire digital drum concept and wants to try out a budget set first. There are lots of videos on youtube for these drums. They have many of the features of my $4,000 set. What is missing is multiple voices for each cymbal. You have one ride and one crash.....plus a high-hat that really works well. You can't choke the cymbals either. You also cannot add other triggers (drum pad or cymbal or whatever). Other these limitations.....this is an excellent set of drums.

Some notable experiences
Simply put, this is a great product. I've had a lot of fun with it over the past few weeks. eDrums are great for keeping the noise to a minimum while jamming out. It still makes a considerable amount of pitter patter as the pads are hit, but much more tolerable than an acoustic set. Plus, there is always the option of hooking up a amp/speaker; this is my preferred method. Setup was difficult as the directions are terrible. Step 1 should be: Find the "drum key." This is required to assemble all of the stands. Instead, it just gives a tiny picture of unlabeled parts and some arrows that tell you where to insert the pieces. Of course nothing fits because you have to loosen all the clamps with the drum key before inserting. Okay 20 min later I've figured this out and can now begin building. Not so bad anymore. Just remember to keep all the clamps loose until the very end because you will be making minor tweaks to everything until it feels comfortable. The preset kit sounds out of the box are less than stellar. You can create custom kits with you're favorite voices to alleviate this problem. Then, set the volume for each pad to balance it all out. It saves all this to memory so it's only required once. I did the suggested firmware upgrade. Couldn't get it to work via Wine in Linux, but in Windows 7 it was a breeze. That seems to be a recurring theme but that's another story. Now actually trying to play, I've not had any issues. Some other reviews mentioned problems with snare/hat silencing one another or dropping notes; thankfully not happening on my unit. My only gripe is that damn ride cymbal plays the bell sometimes when hit too hard. I just tell myself, "haha, yeah I meant to do that." It doesn't sound bad and I don't really consider it a problem. All the pads are responsive and have a nice realistic bouncy feel when hit. But I should mention, my first week playing my kick felt way too bouncy. Every kick came out as a double hit. I messed with the kick spring and it seemed to go away. First all the way loose, and then very tight, and then a little less tight. Not sure if this did the trick or if I learned to control the bounce. Anyway, it doesn't double bounce anymore. In the end, I threw away the box as this thing is a keeper!

yes, worth the money
This was my first e-drum purchase and I couldn't be happier. I have been playing drums since I was 11 (that's 20 years). I am just a recreational player and am not in any bands, but will jam with friends if I get the chance. I wanted the "quietness" for my wife and my neighbors, and this takes up less room than my Pearl 6 piece. Set up was easy, just follow the directions. I left hardware loose until final adjustment and placement of pads. Hardest part was the 2 or 3 trips to Radio Shack to get headphone chord extensions and various wires to hook up my computer, stereo, and monitor speakers. Pads are realistic (although I need to work on my rebound). The feel and characteristics are a little different from the real thing, but once you get used to it and learn the technique it works out. The patterns to play along with are lame, but there are about 4 that are worth your while. I wish there were more good jam patterns and not jazz/samba style. Drum kit sounds are good. My fav is #14 cause it has a good Green Day snare. People say they have problems with the high hat controller, but mine works fantastic. It is very realistic. Obviously it is either 1/2 open or closed, and has no fully open sound, but this works out for the kind of music I play. (ROCK) This kit, although on the cheap price side, is very good quality and takes a beating. I am not easy on the kit at all and thrash the h3ll out of it. It takes it like a champ. I like the fact that it is upgradable and look forward to adding a new controller with more sounds and more pad inputs and growing my set over the next few years. Definately get this if you are considering. It is a great starter kit and is expandable. You can use these pads with different controllers later on. Cheers

Oh yes! I received it and it works very-very well. The packaging was massive and big to make sure it doesn't get hurt while delivered. Got a spare drumsticks with it. The pad are quite big in real life and the cymbals too. I don't know if I do something wrong or It's the pedal but sometimes the kick pedal bounces on the kick pad so it makes some more beats. However I think it's only a ind of setup problem. Anyway this is a very good drum, I can only recommend it because at this price you won't get better, trust me!

Amazon is excellent in delivering the product so fast and I really appreciate Amazon for giving it to me at 25k in the lightning deals. As for the drums, its just brilliant. The sound quality is way above expectation and the quality of material is excellent. There are 3 reasons I am really happy with this set: 1) Excellent sound quality and build material. Totally worth the price. 2) Easy to set up with a PC software like addictive drums 2 and this unlocks your drums to any kit you want the pads to sound. I was so surprised at the quality of recording and minimal latency problem. 3) Can connect this to Xbox 360 to play rock band 3. Just need to buy a midi adapter to connect and you are all set. :D I would just say that buy it and be happy in life cause this is definitely a good kit.
